Formerly named "The House for Displaying War Crimes of American Imperialism
and the Puppet G overnment", War Remnants Museum was established in September
1975. It is an organization in charge of studying, collecting, examining,
preserving and displaying the remnants of the wars against the invaders in
Vietnam.
The museum displays some relics as well as photos showing crimes of American
imperialism and the puppet government during the Vietnam War with the following
themes: American soldiers killing and torturing Vietnamese civilians and
scattering poisonous chemicals, prisons, the war against the North Vietnam. Some
of the relics are airplanes, cannons, tanks, guillotine and two life-sized
replicas of the "tiger cages" Con Dao prison.
There are also halls focusing on "The southwestern border war", "The war for
protecting the northern border", "The Paracels Archipelago Issue", and "The
plots of hostile forces". Outside the museum are stalls showing cultural
products of the ethnic tribes in Vietnam and a room displaying Vietnamese water
puppetry.
