Van Phong Bay


Location: 60km north of Nha Trang City, Van Phong Bay consists of an 18km- long sand dune situated between the mainlands and island, is a beautiful landscape.

This beautiful landscape is endowed with wonderful natural sceneries and beaches of fine sand, an ideal temperate climate, surrounded by hills, mountains and tropical forests. The sea is all the more embellished with colorful coral reefs, vestiges of mangrove forests, rare sea creatures in an ideal environment. Therefore, Van Phong is ranked 1st of the 4 ideal sea tourist centers by the Sea World Association.

The bay is known for Hon Ong (Whale Island), Dam Mon, Bai Nhau, of which Whale Island is greatest for rest and recreation, enjoying many beautiful sights and relics on the island. Visitors can also learn about the inhabitants' fishing work and the habits and customs of minorities living here.
One good point of Whale Island is definitely in its underwater landscape, Vietnam starts to be a diving destination, and the diversities of coral as well as the other components of the submarine fauna, like nudibranches, contribute to the reputation of the place.

PADI instructors are organizing courses or for diving on Hon Trau Nam, Hon Kho Trang, Hon Tai and in the pass of Cua Be with its angels fishes of more than 40cm, its sting rays other leopard rays etc... The diving is practiced from January 15 to October 15.

Some reefs are accessible only with palms, masks and tubas. These sites permit to some beginners to familiarize themselves with the submarine motricity in all security for themselves and for flora and the fauna that they will be able to admire.

The Whales

Every year between April and July, the whale and the whale sharks come to stay in the archipelago to cram themselves of the krill and the plakton that abound.

It is possible to see together up to fifteen of these animals to the wealth of their communities.
And there are a lot of temples dedicated to these animals, and there are every year toward the end March or the beginning April, ceremonies of welcome to Lord Fish, to attack the cetaceans in the sector for the prosperity of the members of the village.

Each one is son of Whale, and if a fisher discovers remains of this animal, he has organizes funeral ceremony. He becomes its eldest son and will be mourning during three years. A tomb will be erected for the bones of the animal in a place determined by a geomancist.
