Kontum province is located in the North of Tay Nguyen, Vietnam. It is also known as Indochina fork because it is adjacent to Laos, and Campuchia. Travellers can discover the gongs culture of ethnic people here.
How to get to Kontum?
By air: There is no airport in Kontum, but travellers can take flight from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city or Danang to Pleiku airport which is 50 km from Kontum. Then catch a bus, or taxi to get to Kontum town.
By road: If you depart from Ho Chi Minh city, you can catch a coach from the East station to Kontum at the cost of VND 200.000 (It is much cheaper than airplane).
The most luxurious hotel in Kontum now is Indochine 3-star hotel with 63 hotels. The room rate is from VND 500.000 to 800.000 per room per night. There are also some cheap hotels which are located on Tran Hung Dao street, Ba Trieu street, Nguyen Trai street,… at the price of VND 200.000 to 300.000 per room per night.
Food and drink?
Food and drink in Kontum is quite cheap, but various. Travellers should taste specialities such as: rice bamboo, grilled pork, grilled crickets,… Kontum is also famous for black bamboo, sour bamboo, kinds of forest vegetables, …
There are many attraction sites in Kontum to visit. Don’t forget to visit Rông house, which is the biggest traditional house in Tay Nguyen, located in Kon Klor village, Thang Loi ward, Kontum town. Travellers can visit Kontum prison which was built from 1930 to 1931 to detain political prisoners. Kontum bishop was built by the combination of West and traditional architecture. Wood church is the combination of Roman style and stilt houses of Ba Na people. Kon Klor hanging bridge connects 2 sides of DakLak river.
Besides, you should get experience in Mang Den (Black bamboo) ecotourism area which is located between Mang Den (Black bamboo) pass and Violak pass (Quang Ngai). Beside the diverse ecosystems with rich flora and fauna, there’s a statue of Our Lady of Mang Den (Our Lady of Sorrows statue ) built by the French in the war.
