Mai Chau is located in Hoa Binh
Province, approximately 135km from Hanoi and 60km from
Hoa Binh Town. From the top of Cun Pass, one can admire
the superb panorama of Mai Chau surrounded by the green
valley and stilt houses. Many minorities, including the
Thai ethnic group, live in Mai Chau. |

The Hoa Binh Hydro-electric Power Plant
on the Da River is the largest of its kind in Vietnam.
Its construction began in November 1979 with assistance
from the fromer Soviet Union. The electric generating
section was built inside a mountain. The plant has eight
generators with a designed capacity of 240,000 KW each.
The plant's reservoir has become an attractive tourist
site along the Da River. |

Ham Rong Mountain is an attractive
tourist area in the center of Sapa Townlet which is 33km
from Lao Cai Town. Legend has it that in the distance
past, all animals lived together in a chaotic
environment. One day, Jade Emperor gave an order that
every species of animal had to find for them an area to
live. Having heard the order, they scrambled for a place
to reside. The three brothers of dragon who were living
in a large lake hurriedly ran to the east but could not
find any place; they then ran to the west. |

Fansipan is a mountain in Vietnam, the
highest in Indochina, at 3 143 m. It is located in the
Lao Cai province in Northwest Vietnam. Fansipan is
dubbed "the Roof of Indochina"; it is to be approved as
one of the very few ecotourist spots of Vietnam, with
about 2,024 floral varieties and 327 faunal species. The
topography of Fansipan is varied. Muong Hoa Valley, at
the lowest altitude (950-1,000m), is created by a narrow
strip of land at the base on the east side of the
mountain. |

The valley of Dien Bien Phu was
18km long and 6-8 km wide when the Dien Bien Phu
campaign began. To date, the valley spreads over 20km
long. On November 20th, 1953, French paratroopers
occupied the valley and built 49 strongholds in three
sub-sections. Among these sites include artillery
emplacements, remains of airplanes, Muong Thanh Bridge,
the command bunker of De Castries, Hill A1 and the
cemetery. Some 35km from the center of Dien Bien Phu
City, in Muong Phang Commune lays the Command Post of
General Vo Nguyen Giap. After the victorious battle of
Dien Bien Phu in 1954, almost all historical sites of
this battle lying to the east of the Muong Thanh Field
have been preserved intact. |

The village is 2km away from Sapa town,
an age-old one of H’Mong minority where many traditional
crafts are well -preserved: cotton growing, weaving or
making jewelries but most remarkable are well-kept
customs that interest visitors at home and abroad.
Visitors to Cat Cat have an opportunity to admire a
lively and colorful picture. That is the image of young
women sitting by looms with colorful pieces of brocade
decorated with designs of flowers and birds. When these
pieces of brocade are finished, they are dyed and
embroidered with beautiful designs. A noteworthy is that
H’Mong women use plants and leaves to dye these brocade
fabrics. And then they roll a round and smooth section
of wood covered with wax on fabrics to polish them,
making their colors durable. |

Bac Ha Market is about 80km from
downtown Sapa, BacHa - a small town built on a desolated
highland plain NorthWest of Lao Cai, is well-known for
the century-old colorful market of the real mountainous
people including the Dzao and the Flower-H'Mong. They
and the mountains seem to fall in a sleep and time
stands still until Sunday mornings when the Bac Ha
market occurs. All the young boys and girls wear their
most beautiful clothes and go to the market. |
