When visiting the Champa museum in Danang, whether in the
morning or in the afternoon, on rainy or sunny days,
visitors still perceive an individual atmosphere particular
to this place, the reverie of reminiscences.
Built in July 1915 with the support of the Far-East
Archaeological Research Institute in Hanoi, the Champa
Museum now has nearly 2000 large and small sculptures. Of
these, 288 are on display inside the museum, 187 objects in
the garden and more than 1.200 objects are reserved in the
storehouse. Most of the sculptures in the museum are
original and mainly of three kinds of materials, including
sandstone, terracotta and bronze. The majority of these
sculptures from the 12th to the 15th century are made of
sandstone with different art styles.
Cua Dai Beach is located about 3km to the east of the
center of Hoi An Town. It has long been known as the
once most crowded commercial port of the southern half
of the country in trading with the outside world, under
the then name of Faifo.
Cua Dai Beach is over 3km in length and up to 300m in
width. It boasts fine white sand, clear and blue water,
moderate slopes and small waves, which make it ideal for
recreational activities like swimming and other sea
sports.
After a long period of absence from the tourist map,
this lovely town started to draw the attention of
visitors and researchers at the beginning of the 1980’s.
What is so special about Hoi An is that this little port
town is in an incredible state of preservation. It
offers some of the most densely concentrated sights in
Vietnam with its old streets bordered with ancient
houses and assembly halls, its pagodas, temples, ancient
wells and tombs. In total, more than a thousand places
of interest.
Marble Mountains are seemingly familiar to everybody who
heard of there or has been to Danang City. There are so
well known as to be a symbol of the area. The subtle,
lyric and poetical ambience of pagodas, grottoes, trees,
bushes, sounds the mixed of pagoda bells and murmuring
waves and the mysterious legends of sea are all that are
not far from the city center, making the mountains a
fairy land for tourists for ages.
Almost two hundred years ago, King Minh Mang came
here. He named the mountain, grottoes and pagodas.
Nobody knows why names such as Ngu Hanh Son, Huyen
Khong, Hoa Liem, Lang Hu, Tang Chan, Van Nguyet, Thien
Long put King deep in thought, despite of dwelling on to
national development, the King kept in his mind the
picturesque landscape of the mountains as the pride of
the beautiful southern land.
My Khe Beach, 2 km from downtown Danang, includes what
was known as China Beach and used for rest and
recreation by American GIs during the Vietnam War. This
900 meter long beach is composed of white sand fringed
with palm trees and immortalized for many by the US
television show and still one the most spectacular beach
in Asia.
My Son, located 69 km southwest of Danang, was an
imperial city during the Cham dynasty, between the 4th
and 12th centuries. My Son Sanctuary is a large complex
of religious relics that comprises more than 70
architectural works. They include temples and towers
that connect to each other with complicated red brick
designs. The main component of the Cham architectural
design is the tower, built to reflect the divinity of
the king.
According to records on the stone stele, the prime
foundation of the ancient My Son architectural complex
was a wooden temple to worship the Siva Bhadresvera
genie. In the late 16th century, a big fire destroyed
the temple. Step by step, historical mysteries were
unveiled by scientists. Through stone stele and royal
dynasties, they proved My Son to be the most important
Holy Land of the Cham people from the late 4th to the
15th centuries.
Its
source was from Thanh Hoa province and formed in the end
of 15th century, after that it developed vigorously,
contemporary with Hoi An port in the centuries later.
Thanh Ha pottery products are made from clay soil by
much defined craftsmen. The products mainly serve daily
life of native people in domestic markets including
bowls, jars, pots, shapes of animals, etc. They have
multiform colors and shapes especially they are lighter
than the same products in other places.
