Built in 1929 with the originally name as “Blanchard
de la Brosse Museum”, Viet Nam Historical Museum has an excellent collection of
about 30,000 artifacts on the evolution and development of the history and
cultures of Vietnam, from the Bronze Age Dong Son civilization (13th century BC)
to the last feudal dynasty ending in the mid-20th century, with emphasis on the
southern Funan, Vietnamese, Cham and Khmer civilizations and regional
acculturation. The museum display consists
of two parts:
* Part 1 displays the history of Vietnam from the
period of the first human habitation (about 300,000 years ago) to 1930 - the
time of the birth of the Vietnamese Communist Party. This part comprises the
following halls:
The primitive period in Vietnam
The founding of King Hung's Dynasty
The periods of fighting to gain independence (Centuries I - X)
Ly Dynasty (Centuries XI - XIII)
Tran Dynasty (Centuries XIII - XIV)
Le Dynasty (Centuries XV - XVII)
Tay Son Dynasty (Centuries XVIII - early XIX)
Nguyen Dynasty (Centuries XIX - mid XX).
* Part 2 has themes of historical characteristics of southern Vietnam such as Oc
Eo culture, ancient culture of the Mekong Delta, Cham art, Ben Nghe - Saigon,
ethnic minority groups in Vietnam and ancient pottery of some Asian countries.
Besides the display area, there is a storage system for a great number of
various relics. |
