Hanoi – Sapa – Fansipan: 2 days and 1 night

Day 1: Hanoi – Sapa – Cat Cat (Lunch, Dinner)

In the morning, you will be picked up to get to Sapa along the high way Noi Bai – Lao Cai. Althought it takes about 5 hours, it is not too long because you can see the beauty of landscape on the both side road.

On arrival at Sapa town, you will check in hotel, have lunch and be free to do what you wish.

In the afternoon, you’ll walk to visit Cat Cat village – a village of Mong people to discover their life as well as culture, and customs.

You will spend the night in Sapa

Day 2: Sapa – Fansipan – Hanoi (Breakfast, Lunch)

After breakfast, you will be picked up and transfer to the cable station Fansipan. You will be instructed to get on cabin and prepare to conquer Fansipan. You will be brought to the height of 2.800m compared to sea level. You then walk for a while to really conquer “the Roof of Indochina” whose height is 3.143m. It has been dream of many people.

After that, you’ll come back to the hotel, check out, have lunch, and freely go shopping.

In the afternoon, you get on the bus, and return Hanoi. Tour ends.

Hanoi – Sapa 2 days, 3 nights by train (hotel overnight stay)

Night 1: Hanoi – Lao Cai

You will be picked up by our tour guide at your hotel and transfer to Tran Quy Cap train station to get a night train to Lao Cai. You will spend the night on train.

Day 1: Lao Cai- Sapa- Lao Chai- Ta Van- Giang Ta Chai (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Arrival at Lao Cai train station in the early morning, you will find a car waiting to take you to Sapa. On the way, you will have chance to get the view of magnificent mountains.

After breakfast, tour guide will take you to visit Lao Chai- Ta Van and Giang Ta Chai village. Here, not only can you learn about daily life of ethnic minorities but also enjoy the spectacular landscape of terraced rice fields. Besides, you will visit Sapa Ancient Rock Field where you can see a lot of rocks carved with different patterns by ancient people. More interestingly, you will have opportunity to see Rattan Bridge  (Cau May) crossing romantic Muong Hoa valley.

In the afternoon, you will return Sapa town for dinner and you are free to get around Sapa. Your overnight stay will be in Sapa.

Day 2: Sapa – Cat Cat village – Ham Rong Mountain (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

After breakfast, you will walk to Cat Cat village, a beautiful village stretching along Muong Hoa valley. Visiting this village, you will be introduced about traditions and customs of H’Mong people.

In the afternoon, tour will continue with visits of Ham Rong mountain, orchid garden 1,2 and western flower garden. Other sites are also included in your tour such as Sky Gate and Cloud Yard. From Ham Rong mountain, Sapa looks like a special painting. In addition, you will have chance to know about cultural life of local people through their traditional dances.

Saying goodbye to Sapa in the evening, you will head for Lao Cai train station where you will take a night train to come back to Hanoi.

The train will take you to Hanoi by 5 am next morning. Tour ends.



Sapa tour 3 days

Day 1: Hanoi – Sapa – Lao Chai – Ta Van – Giang Ta Chai (Lunch, Dinner)

Early morning, you will be picked up to get to Sapa by shuttle bus. It takes you only 5 hours to get to “The intersection point of the ground and the sky”.

After checking your hotel, you’ll have lunch and start a 4-hour journey of walking to visit Lao Chai – Ta Van, and Giang Ta Chai village, discovering the life of ethnic communities, watching the majestic landscape of terraced fields, visiting the ancient rocks’ field  and the bridge which pass through Muong Hoa stream.

The car will wait for you at Giang Ta Chai village and transfer you back to Sapa town.

You will spend the night in Sapa.

Day 2: Sapa – Cat Cat – Ham Rong (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

After breakfast, you walk to discover Cat Cat village which was built by French, and also the resort for their officials in the early of XX century.

You’ll visit Cat Cat village, Cat Cat hydroelectric station, Cat Cat Fall, discover the unique culture of the locals as well as their traditional trade such as weaving fabric,… You can take some pictures here.

In the afternoon, you’ll visit Ham Rong mountain which is very beautiful and majestic. You will drop by Dong Duong orchids’ garden, cross over 2 gates of sky. The highest place of Ham Rong mountain is Clouds’ Yard where the sky and the ground converge. You can see an overall picture of Sapa from here.

You will spend the night in Sapa.

Day 3: Sapa – Silver Water Fall – Love Water Fall –  Hanoi (Breakfast, Lunch)

You will be picked up to visit the Silver Water Fall which is the source of Muong Hoa stream. Then, you’ll come to visit Love Water Fall which starts from Fansipan. Guides will tell you the love story between a fairy and a hewer of O Quy Ho pass. Following Yellow stream, you can see the majesty of mountains, and forests.

You’ll then come back to Sapa town, check out and have lunch. You’ll have free time to go shopping before returning Hanoi.

Sapa tour 2 days, 3 nights by train (homestay)

Night 1: Hanoi – Lao Cai

You will be at Hanoi station at around 20:00 to get on the train to Lao Cai. You will spend the night on the train.

Day 1: Lao Cai – Sapa – Lao Chai village – Ta Van (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Arriving at Lao Cai station, you will be met and transferred to Sapa. The beauty of Sapa is the combination between the creativity of human and the natural landscape of mountains and forests.

Upon arrival Sapa town, you will have breakfast and relax before starting your visit to Lao Chai and Ta Van village. After breakfast, you keep on visiting Giang Ta Chai village – the village of Dzao people. There are many colourful clothes which are made carefully and meticulously.

In the afternoon, you’ll go back to Sapa town, freely go shopping before returning to Lao Cai station to get on the train and back to Hanoi.

Sapa is located in Lao Cai province and is 1600 meters above sea level. It has mild and subtropical climate with weather being cool all year round. Particularly, visitors travelling to Sapa can feel the climate of four seasons in one day. In the morning, it is like the weather of spring. Transportation from Hochiminh city to Sapa

Setting off from Hochiminh city, you can choose to travel to Hanoi by train or by air .

Sapa town is 38 kilometers far from Lao Cai city and 376 kilometers from Hanoi capital. From Hanoi, you can get on a train or a coach to visit Sapa.

By coach:  It takes you 8-9 hours to reach Sapa from My Dinh, Luong Yen or Gia Lam coach station. One of advantage of going by coach is that it is time saving. However, it may be a bumpy ride as there are a lot of steep passes.

By travelling coach: If you travel in groups, it is wise to hire a coach to save money. Besides, you can ask the driver to take you to any places you want to visit.

By train: You can book a berth or an air-conditioned seat. The train leaves at 9 or 10 pm and reaches Sapa in early morning. You can book a ticket at 120 Le Duan street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi capital  and the phone number is 0439423697. When you have reached Lao Cai station, you can take a taxi to head for Sapa town. Alternatively, If you want to save money you can take a bus at the cost of 10 thousand dong but you are supposed to walk a distance to get to the bus station.

Transportation in Sapa

You can hire a motorbike at the cost odd 120 thousand dong per one and you will have to pay for fuel. A motorbike can be for use from 6am to 6pm.

Accomodation in Sapa

There are a number of hotels in the town center or along Cau May street with cost of 150 thousand for cheap hotels and 2-3 million for luxurious ones.

Hometay at local people’s homes  in Ta Phin or Ta Van village may be an option. This type of tourism is being developed in Sapa so you don’t have to be worried about its quality or hygiene standards. More improtantly, it is not too expensive and the cost includes accomodation and 3 meals a day.

Tribal villages to visit in Sapa

Cat Cat village

Cat Cat village is formed in the middle of 19th century. Local people build their homes near hillside with homes not being to far from one another.

It is 2 kilometers far from Sapa town. Visiting Cat Cat village, visitors have chance to go to Catsat waterfall which is also called Tien Sa. It was discovered by French and served as a resort for them.

Standing on the metal bridge over Muong Hoa stream, you can observe white flows of water pulling downwards. In the event of rain, you can head for a tent near the waterfal and try grilled corn or grilled meat with a glass of apple wine.

Mong people earn their livings by growing rice in terraced fields or other traditional jobs such as weaving  or foundry. Nowadays, Sapa is showing a lot of improvements and has become a famous destination. As a result, there is a labour shift from agriculture to tourism. A number of people especially the young can speak foreign languges such as English or French and become tour guides. Older people mainly stick to their traditionaly jobs.

Local people still preserve a lot of traditions and customs. Among them is “wife stealing”. When a man falls in love with a girl, he will organise a party to invite his friends and draw a plan to steal the girl from her parents and keep her inside his house for 3 days. If the girl agrees to become his wife, an official wedding will be held.

Besides, tourists can explore and learn about Mong’s cuisine such as corn wine, corn cake horse meat, frog meat with young bamboo and so on

Ho village

Ho village is 30 kilometers far from Sapa. Situated near Hoang Lien Son moutain and Muong Hoa stream, it has a romantic landscape. Visiting Ho village, tourists will be impressed with a giant green terraced fields surrounded by hills and homes of ethnic people

       Besides Muong Hoa and La Ve stream, Ho village also has other streams and waterfall such as Ca Nhay, Seo Trung Ho. Seo Trung Ho waterfall is 100 meters high and is like a beautiful ribbon crossing the mountain

    Tourisits will be able to experience traditional lifestyle of local people. In the morning, a tour guide will take tourists to visit Hoang Lien national park. At noon, they can go bathing in Lave stream.

Local people grow cotton plants and weaving to make money. They are very famous for sophisticated brocade.

They always welcome tourists warmly and friendly and offer tourists local specialites such as grilled fish, sticky rice.

Homestay is one of the factors that make Ho village more attractive. There are 29 families who are willing to offer homstay service for tourists. With low cost, nice dishes and hospitality, homestay is becoming increasingly favored by tourists.

Ta Phin village

Ta Phin village is 12 kilometers from Sapa and comprised of Dao and H’mong people.

You can visit Ta Phin monastery. Although it is a historical site, it represents French architecture and shows cultural values.

There are 2-3 generations living together in Dao people’s families. Each house has 2 dinning rooms and a garret to store corns.

Besides growing corn and rice, Dao women also make brocade or get medical leaves to sell to tourists. Medical leaves are said to be beneficial to health and can be used to treat aching bones

Visitors can visit Ta Phin cave which is very large. The cave entrance is 5 meters high and 3 meters large. Coming inside, tourists will enjoy the magnificent and mysterious beauty of the cave. There are still French words carved on the rocks a long time ago but they are still readable.

Ta Phin village is also reputable for brocade products with a variety of forms and eye-catching colors. They are sold to tourists or brocade shops in market. They are also displayed at market fair and exported overseas to America, France or Denmark



After visiting travelling spots, tourist can stay at local people’s homes. It is interesting to gather around fireplace and sip glass of wine with buffalo meat while hearing traditional stories of local people

Ta Van village

Ta Van village is 10 kilometers far from Sapa. On way to Ta Va, you can catch the view of romantic Muong Hoa valley.

Along the road streches green terraced fields. The more you go, the more supprised you will be at the picturesque lanscape.

Ta Van village is mainly inhabited by Giay people. Their culture is subject to that of Tay, Thai and Nung people.

Giay people earn their livings by growing rice and silver carving. Nowadays, more families are shifting to homestay tourism. They invest money to mend and upgrade their house and buy more funiture to serve tourists. They always try to preserve their traditional lifestyle as a way to attract tourists. There are about 40 families who offer homestay tourists. They offer tourists their daily dishes such as poultry meat, fish and vegetables. Such dishes are simple but help tourists to learn more about their simple and artless lifestyle.

The local specialies are grilled chiken, grilled pork and a variety of cakes. Particularly, tourists will have opportunity to try a lot of local wines such as corn wine, apple wine especially plum wine which is available in Ta Van only. Additionally, tourists can join local people to climb the mountains and get young bamboo or catch fish in the streams. All consitute memorial experiences to tourists.

It is typical of Giay people to show preference for music. During the day, they are industrious farmer busy with their farming work. However, at night they are musical performers. They are skillful in Then dance and charming in love songs.

Sin Chai village

Sin Chai village is 4 kilometers from Sapa and is considered peaceful and quiet. Overall, tourism is not developed here which gives the village primitive beauty.

About 1400 Mong peple live here. Apart from growing corn and rice, local people grow medical trees in hills to increase their income.

Thanks to fresh air, pure water and clean vegetables and fruits, the avarage life expectancy of Sin Chai people is quite long. Women tend to live longer than men and the oldest person in the village is 112 years old.

The average life expectacy of men is 50 years old. This is due to the fact that men are responsible for heavy jobs such as making terraced fields while women just have to do chores. Besides, Sin Chai men drink a lot which contributes to their short life expectancy.

Each tribal village in Sapa has its own attractions which impress tourists. Local people live in harmony with nature and are always nice to each other. It is simplicity and kindness that attract tourists to come and experience daily life of local people. Sapa is simply a diamond of Northwest of Vietnam.

Clothes: The weather in Sapa changes every day, every season, so you don’t need to bring clothes suitable for the climate. The clothes don’t need to be much, but warm.

It is cool in the summer. You can wear casual clothes, but you still need a coat. However, it is very cold in the winter. You will need warm clothes, gloves, beanies to counteract the coldness. Don’t bring too much. If you stay Sapa for many days, bring washing powder to wash clothes (normally, 2-3 days are enough to discover all about Sapa).

Because of its specific terrain and its feature which is to walk to explore the beauty, travelers have to walk very much. Therefore, to protect your feet, you should prepare a pair of sneakers, or sport shoes. You shouldn’t wear high heels ( you can wear them only when going arount night in the centre).

Personal identification: Most of the hotels in Sapa require their customers to show identity card to do temporary residence registration procedure ( you can show your passport, or license in case your identity card is lost). Besides, many travelers want to hire motorbikes to drive around. Remember to bring your license for a funny trip.

Personal instruments: you should prepare some personal instruments for the trip such as glasses, gauze mask, scarf, and gloves,… They will protect your eyes and your health when driving motorbike for a long way with dust.

Moreover, you have to bring toothbrush, towel, toothpaste, which are available in the hotel but not good in quality. Take note to bring camera and video camera if you’d love to keep wonderful moments.

Snack: Because you will mainly walk, which takes very much enery, you should prepare some milk, chocolate, candies,… They will be very helpful for you. Especially, candies can become gifts for ethnic children.



  • When to come Sapa?

Spring: In Sapa, it is full of peach, plum flowers. If you want to watch peach blossom, remember to carefully look for information. Because the climate is different among years, which make the flowers not bloom in a fixed period of time, you can miss the chance to admire the beauty of flowers. It is best to visit Sapa from February to the early of May.

Rice season: In Sapa, rice season is 6 months long, starting about in the early of May. From July to September, the rice is green and high. From October to December, the rice is ripen and yellow. If you want to watch rice field on holiday, it is a good idea to visit Sapa from July to September. It may be cold, and foggy from October to December. It is also the time that falls drop down very strongly.

Winter: It is very cold in the winter. It is very cold, and snows recently. All creatures, and houses are covered by the white of snow, which can be a half meter thick. It is unable to predict the day of snow, so you have to always follow radios, and TVs, or keep in touch with the locals ( or the hotel you stay at).

  • Means of transportation

Backpack: Your vehicle is certainly motorbike. Drive along the route: Ha Noi – Yen Bai – Lao Cai – Sa Pa. It is a highway of 390 km, very easy to drive.

Backpack a half: You can get to Lao Cai by train, then hire motorbike to get to Sa Pa. The route from Lao Cai station to Sapa is about 40 km. It is a winding road with flowing stream below, mountains and terraces nearby.

The cost of hiring motorbike is about 100.000-200.000d per day. You should choose motorbike because it is fuel-saving and strong enough to uphill slopes. In addition, you can book a berth ticket from Ha Noi to Sa Pa. In fact, it will stop at Lao Cai station for about 30 minutes to pay Ha Noi – Lao Cai passengers, and get Lao Cai – Sa Pa ones.

By train: Most of the passengers choose train to get to Sa Pa because it is safe, cheap, convenient, and time-saving. However, train only can take you to Lao Cai station, then you have to catch a car to get to Sa Pa.

The ticket price: from 130.000d-160.000d for medium train, anf 650.000d-750.000 for travel train for one way.

  • Accomodation

Sapa is one of the most famous tourist attractions of our country which thousands of travelers visit every year to experience and discover the its featured cultural background of ethnic minority here. Therefore, accomodation service is developed very much.

The price is not expensive: the cheapest is motels near the lake, only from 200.000d-300.000d.If you like a more convenient room, you can book rooms in 3-star hotels in Cau May – Muong Hoa at the price of 500.000d-700.000d. Besides, there are some luxurious hotels such as Victoria, Topas Ecolodge, Chau Long at over 1 million dong. However, the room price depends on the time you come. If you choose holidays, it will be higher.

If you love 100% backpack, you should choose homestay to discover all the feature of Sapa’s special cultural background. It is not only unforgettable memory but also a way to save money for you.

The price of food is not expensive, but you should ask for price before trying. At night, you can go out and try “San Lung” wine, eat the barbecue. There are many strange dishes: grilled eggs, grilled belly, grilled chicken, bamboo-tube rice.

Sapa’s specialities are temperate vegetables such as: white cauliflower, red beet, chayote. The most special one is “ngong”, the body part on which the flowers are in full bloom. There are many kinds of “ngong”: “ngong” with garlic, “ngong” with beet, “ngong” with chayote. Besides, it is also said that: its is more delious to have boiled “ngong”.

Sapa is famous for “lon cap nach”. Eating “lon cap nach”, and drink cider is a good choice to talk all night.
