Cao Bang travel guide

Located in Northeast region of Vietnam, Cao Bang province is a mountainous area with wild and magnificent landscape.

In addition to scenic places, Cao Bang is also famous for many historical sites related to Vietnam’s revolution. If you plan to visit Cao Bang, the following details might be helpful for you

  1. Means of transport

Cao Bang is 300 kilometers far from Hanoi capital. You can go there by cars or motorbikes. If you are not familiar with roads, my advice for you is to book a tour of travel agents. If you are a fan of trekking, you could go there by motorbike.

There are 2 routes to go to Cao Bang. The first is Hanoi – Thai Nguyen – Bac Can – Cao Bang and the second is Hanoi – Lang Son – Dong Khe – Cao Bang. From each province, you could take a coach to Cao Bang

  1. Accommodation

Hotels and hostels in Cao Bang are mainly situated in city center and towns with the rate varies from 200.000 vnd to 300.000 vnd per room per night. Highly recommended hotels are Huong Sen, Sunny, Bang Giang, Giao Te,…. Food service is also provided at the hotels or hostels due to lack of local restaurants.

  1. Best time for travel

You could travel to Cao Bang at any time of the year. However, if you want to see buckwheat flower and wild sunflower, you should come here in late November and early December. Besides, if you visit Cao Bang between August and September, you will have chance to enjoy the beauty of Ban Gioc waterfall, the 4th biggest waterfall in the world.

There are many attractions in Cao Bang that are worth visiting such as Ban Gioc waterfall as mentioned above, Nguom Ngao cave, Thang Hen lake.

Other historical sites for you to visit such as Lenin stream, Pac Bo cave, Bach Ma wall, Kim Dong site.

  1. Local specialities

Cao Bang is famous for its diversity of specialities, namely Gam river’s fried fish, Trung Khanh chestnuts, sour noodle, roasted duck, canarium fruit sticky rice (xoi tram).
