Mekong Delta overview

Mekong Delta is located in the Southern region of Vietnam and is usually called as beloved Western area. It is comprised of 13 provinces and cities and plays an important role in economic and cultural development of the Southern region.

The total area of Mekong Delta is about 40548,2 square kilometers. It consists of one municipality of Vietnam namely Can Tho and other provinces namely Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Vinh Long, Bac Lieu, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Dong Thap, An Giang, Kien Giang and Ca Mau.

Mekong Delta has a diversified flora and fauna system. In addition, the national park was constructed to maintain biodiversity and protect rare species.

The provinces of Mekong Delta are surrounded by rivers. Industrious farmers have taken advantage of alluvial soils of Mekong river to cultivate rice and fruit trees. Besides, they also raise fish and shrimps.

Mekong Delta has a lot of favorable conditions for tourism development. You can visit the delta by means of high-speed boat or airplane. Especially, you will have chance to participate in many interesting festival and enjoy traditional musical performance such as “cai luong” and Khmer dance.

Chau Doc, An Giang

Chau Doc is a city of An Giang province and shares its border with Cambodia. Besides, it is known as a travelling spot of Vietnam with a lot of scenic places and historical sites.

Time to visit Chau Doc: Like other province in Mekong Delta, Chau Doc has two separate seasons in a year namely dry season and wet season. You can visit Chau Doc at any time as its climate is cool all year round.

Means of transportation: Chau Doc is 245 kilometers far from Ho Chi Minh City. You can travel either by your vehicle or by coach. Some coach agents suggested for you are Phuong Trang, Mai Linh, Hung Cuong with the cost varying between 100.000 and 150.000 dong per person.

When you reach Chau Doc, you can travel by taxi, motorbike taxi, or by boat to explore famous sites.

Accommodation: it is easy to find a hotel or hostel in Sam mountain area and city center. The rooms are offered at various prices.

Foods to try: local specialties include fish sauces. You can buy them as presents for your families and friends. In addition, do not miss trying famous local dishes such as fish noodles and hot pot.

Places to visit: Tay An temple located at the foot of Sam mountain is the best place for you to discover Indian and Islamic style architecture. Besides, Chau Doc floating village representing Mekong culture is also worth visiting. Other places that are recommended to you are Thoai Ngoc Hau mausoleum in Vinh Te town and Ba Chua Xu temple with sophisticated architecture.
