Phu
Quoc - Kien Giang - Vietnam
This
beachside resort is splashy, if a bit gaudy. Despite that (or
perhaps because of it!) it is popular as a honeymoon
destination for Vietnamese couples. The problem is that it
doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the island.
The
12 seaside villas are the best bet. They ring a beautiful
swimming pool which is the resort's courtyard centerpiece,
giving the main building a French colonial-style mansion feel.
The service here couldn't be friendlier and efficient,
surprising for a state-owned enterprise. Other amenities
include a karaoke club, massage parlor, and satellite TV. Oh
yeah - and the nightly disco cruise which you can hear up and
down the beach! |

Can
Tho - Vietnam
The
Can Tho Golf opened in 2003. It's is a conventional ten-story
'block' hotel on the banks of the Hau River, a short distance
from Ben Thu tourist wharf in the city centre. The
name is misleading - the nearest golf is on the outskirts of
Saigon
.
Even
though it does not have a golf course, it offers a good range
of facilities and has excellent views of the river. Rooms are
comfortable, with good bathrooms. Don't expect much in the way
of local or Vietnamese culture though, the hotel is standard
international style. |
